The University of Lucerne is the youngest university in Switzerland. Founded in 2000, it has four faculties and around 3,000 students. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with its eight institutes and departments focuses on interdisciplinarity and innovation in research and teaching. The Faculty offers its almost 800 students a range of courses that are unique in Switzerland, placing great emphasis on excellent support and a close link between research and teaching activities.
As of the 1st of December 2023 or by agreement, we are looking for two research assistants to contribute to the project Digitalization and Political Conflict: Parties, Voters, and Electoral Alignment (DIGIPOL). The DIGIPOL project investigates the social and political consequences of digitalization. It asks whether we can observe a division in Swiss society between “winners” and “losers” of digitalization, and if this new conflict is reflected in public opinion, political behavior and partisan politics. The conditions of the two job offers are described below.
Research assistant 1
Percentage of employment:
- 10%
Duration:
- 12 months, from December 2023 to December 2024
Responsibilities:
- Transcription of paper questionnaires to an online format, annotation of parliamentary speeches for quantitative text analysis (e.g., digitalization = yes or digitalization = no), data management support. We will provide training before the main tasks.
Requirements:
- Coursing a BA or MA at the University of Lucerne. Native or advanced knowledge of German, advanced level of English, basic level fo French. Basic knowledge of Italian is desiderable. No previous technical knowledge is required. However, previous research assistance experience and knowledge of statistical analysis software (e.g., RStudio) are an asset.
Research assistant 2

- 2 months, from December 2023 to January 2024
Responsibilities:
- Annotation of parliamentary speeches for quantitative text analysis (e.g., digitalization = yes or digitalization = no). We will provide training before the task.
